On Thursday, an aide to the House of Representatives was arrested in the Capitol Hill office building after he managed to get a bag with a pistol through a security check, which sounded the alarm.

According to the U.S. Capitol Police, the police in the Longworth Building office building spotted the gun on the X-ray screen at 7:40 am. This discovery forced officials to issue a security alert to notify the staff in the building to enter a lockdown state.

"Close, lock and stay away from exterior doors and windows," the warning section reads. "If you are in a quiet place, find a place to hide or seek cover. Keep quiet and keep your electronic devices silent."

The Capitol Police said that the police found the owner of the bag four minutes after seeing the gun on the screen and was identified as 57-year-old Jeffrey Als Brooks. According to the statement, Ols Brooks told the police that he had forgotten the gun was in his bag.

A staff member of the Office of the Chief Administrator of the House of Representatives, Ols Brooks, was arrested and will be charged with one count of carrying a pistol without a license. The Congressional Police said that the department is investigating the matter and is investigating "what happened before, during and after the four minutes" between the police officer's discovery of the gun and the arrest of Als Brooks.

Thursday’s incident was the latest security breach since the January 6th riot in which President Donald Trump’s supporters killed five people, leaving Capitol Hill on the brink.

On Tuesday, the Congressional Police Attorney General told members of the Senate that the department has not yet made dozens of necessary changes after the riots. Michael Bolton also revealed under the senator's questioning that "approximately 200" congressional officials have left the army since the violence on January 6.
