With the opening of the new security checkpoint, pilots should expect major changes at Reagan National Airport.

At 4 o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, a brand new area was built to provide more space and better traffic to terminals B and C.

News4 traffic reporter Adam Tuss said passengers may wish to spend a few more minutes going to security.

"You have to take a detour to get here," Tas said.

The upper level of @Reagan_Airport is now "isolated" and you can follow the new escalator to the security checkpoint. The main hall (Ben's Chili Bowl, Legal Seafood) is now safe after @nbcwashington pic.twitter.com/iLwUns9H48

The security door is kept on the second floor. The boarding gate number and security procedures of Terminal A where Southwest Airlines is located are the same.

Flyers can follow the signs from the drop-off area, parking lot or subway to boarding gates 10 to 59. More information here.

If you enter from the upper lower passenger deck, you will pass through the sliding glass door to the upper ticket office to obtain your boarding pass or drop your luggage.

To reach the security gate, you will transfer to a new escalator to descend, which will take you into the new TSA checkpoint area. From there, go through the security check and walk until you pass the tunnel.

If you go to the airport from the subway station or one of the parking lots, and you don’t need to check your luggage, you can go directly to the checkpoint.

A major change is that the lobby that includes Ben's Chili Bowl and Legal Sea Foods is now behind the security checkpoint.

A frequent traveler told TASS that this change was surprising.

He said, "I came here and I was like,'I don't know which airport I am at!'"

As a result of growth, Reagan National Airport has changed-the airport uses more than one million people each year than it was originally designed.

TSA Reagan Federal Security Director Scott Thomas Johnson (Scott Thomas Johnson) said that these changes will now also allow TSA to work at the airport 24 hours a day. Previously, they would close between about midnight and 4 am

Johnson said: "We used to close at DCA at night. If you remember you will see crowds gathering, so if we obviously have a large crowd, we can open all checkpoints here immediately." "Or, if we only have a few people at Line up, we can close it."

TSA stated that it has sufficient staff at the airport to handle the holiday crowd.

Expect new retail and dining options.

Airport officials stated that the new checkpoint will create a “seamless, free flow between terminals B and C (gates 10-45) and the airport’s new 14-gate lobby (gates 46-59). Environment”, the latter replaced Reagan’s infamous 35X gate earlier this year.
