A big storm will move into the state this weekend, bringing the potential for significant snowfall totals.

The National Weather Service is watching a weekend storm that will dump over a foot of snow on parts of Maine, Saturday into Saturday night. The Bangor and Downeast areas will likely see primarily rain, which will fall heavy at times. In northern areas of the state, precipitation will fall primarily as snow. Snow totals may exceed a foot in far northern areas of Aroostook, Piscataquis, and Somerset counties.

Showers are expected to taper off throughout the evening hours Saturday. Forecasters warn of potential river ice movement and localized ice jams across central and Downeast areas on Saturday. Gusty winds will develop overnight Saturday, with areas of blowing snow expected across the north.
