In November 2019, France and Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement to support the strengthening of Ukraine's maritime safety and security. OCEA won an international consultation initiated by the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The procurement contract is for 20 32 m OCEA FPB 98 MKI patrol ships to ensure the country’s sovereignty in the Azov and Black Seas.

BG201 is the first OCEA FPB 98 MKI in a fleet of 20 ships. Its launching ceremony will be held at the OCEA base in Les Sables d'Olonne on Thursday, December 9, 2021. The Ukrainian Ambassador to France, Mr. Vadim Omechenko, and representatives of the French government attended the ceremony.

Five of the 20 FPB 98 MKI ships ordered will be built by the Nibulon shipyard in Nikolaev, Ukraine. During the warranty period, the fleet will provide a series of services, including crew training, ship maintenance and technical assistance to customers. The first ship will arrive in Odessa, Ukraine from France next spring. OCEA FPB 98 MKI is planned to be deployed in the Black Sea and the Sea of ​​Azov.

OCEA FPB MKI is a ship designed by OCEA to perform maritime security missions in the exclusive economic zone for one to two weeks. These self-sufficient ships are designed to operate as true naval bases at sea, demonstrating key design techniques. Due to the combination of high speed and endurance, high-level equipment and comfort can monitor a wide range of combat areas and coordinate operations, such as:

OCEA’s 32-meter-long FPB 98 patrol ship has 13 crew members and has a maximum speed of 30 knots. FPB 98 is currently in service with the Suriname Coast Guard and the navies of Algeria, Benin and Nigeria.

Each ship will be equipped with a modern photoelectric surveillance system and the RHIB of the border guard reconnaissance team.
