The FBI and Washington State Patrol bomb squad are assisting in an investigation into an ATM explosion at a bank in Centralia, Washington. The local police department released images of the explosion aftermath and asked for the public's help in identifying the suspects who fled the scene with stolen cash.

The FBI and Washington State Patrol bomb squad have joined the investigation into an ATM explosion at a bank in Centralia and are seeking two suspects who fled with an undisclosed amount of money inside -- some of it possibly burned around the edges.

A photo released by the Centralia Police Department shows a completely destroyed and charred ATM blown to pieces.

The explosion occurred at 6:40 a.m. Monday at First Security Bank, according to Centralia police.

The blast was created by an “unknown improvised explosion device” placed by two people who were trying to break into the ATM, police said.

Security footage showed the unidentified suspects taking the money inside the ATM and leaving in their car, a late 1990s or early 2000s light-colored four-door Honda Accord.

Police said some money recovered at the scene had burned edges, so investigators believe some of the money the thieves got may have been partially damaged as well.

Police ask anyone with information about the explosion and robbery to call the Centralia Police Department at 360-330-7680.
