Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite Free-2-Play games. The video game market is oversaturated, and sometimes, hidden gems fall through the cracks. This is where we do the digging for you and feature a new F2P game every week that we know you will enjoy. Let’s dive in!

Ever dreamt of working a cash register with no pay or real-life customer interaction? Look no further! This simulation game brings a fresh take to the notoriously dull tasks of customer service, introducing you to a cast of wacky characters and the baggage they carry.

Let’s get down to the basics. As a retail life simulator, the gameplay is easy to master. It plays like a cross between Job Simulator and Not Tonight. Once you clock in for work, you’ll find life items to check to see if they are expired or damaged. The items all turn in a 3-D space, and you have as much time as you need to examine them.

Checking the expiration dates is one of the most challenging parts of the game because the text for them looks handwritten and can be small on some labels. Flipping the items over and keeping an eye on your calendar will help you catch these expired items. 

Damage is the easiest to spot as the items are damaged similarly. For example, the apples are bruised, the carrots have been bitten and the chip bags have a rip you can spot from the conveyor belt. 

Why should you play Check it Out? There is something so appealing about games based around mundane jobs or monotonous tasks. Check it Out! had me from the thumbnail of the grocery cart and never failed to hold my attention.

The writing in this game is what makes it shine. The characters are interesting, and I was excited to see repeat customers. Watching their stories play out through the one-sided conversations and items they purchased was the best part of the game. 

The one thing that bothered me about the game was the clashing art styles. The food items, characters, background, clock and various text have different textures. Nothing in the game is uniform, giving it an unpolished feeling but, seeing as this is an indie game, I did my best to push those feelings down. 

Overall, Check it Out! is funny, fun and lighthearted. The music is a soothing blend of the elevator piano over the familiar beeps of a cash register and sets the mood perfectly. I hope more content is added to the game in the future, such as a money machine, but this is still an excellent play for right now.
