Public Works Minister Juan Edghill commissioned screening equipment worth more than US$400 million at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) in Timehri on the east coast of Demerara on Saturday.

The equipment is built with the most advanced technology, funded by the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Company with the support of the Guyana government.

These new scanners will help quickly detect threats to civil aviation and assist law enforcement agencies in cracking down on drug smuggling at major ports of entry. The new machine has an automatic detection function, which allows security personnel to operate and further check abnormal conditions detected in the passenger’s luggage.

Two of the new security inspection equipment will be deployed at transit passenger security checkpoints and employee security checkpoints.

Transit passengers will no longer need to go through the immigration and be escorted to the departure terminal to board the connecting flight. These passengers will enter the departure lounge directly after being checked at the transit checkpoint.

Airport employees will be checked separately from passengers, thus shortening the processing time of each flight.

This is a much-needed and popular service that will help franchisees to scan their goods/commodities in time.

The machines in use today include:

The CTX 5800 Explosives Detection System (EDS) has passed TSA certification and can quickly identify threats in checked baggage.

CTX5800 is a computer tomography (CT) basic system that uses a single X-ray generator to provide high-resolution 3D images to quickly and accurately threaten threats. It is very suitable for airports such as CJIA.

It can be fully integrated into the baggage handling system and provides a network solution to link multiple scanners for efficient image distribution and system monitoring among operators. This new system can also automatically separate luggage from luggage that requires a second inspection.

This device replaces the Rapiscan 528 that was put into use at CJIA more than 16 years ago.

Guyana is one of the few countries in Latin America and the Caribbean

This new technology has already been deployed at the airport.

This is a dual-view X-ray inspection for hand luggage, a reliable and flexible security scanner. HI-SCAN 6040-2is HR is an advanced dual-view X-ray inspection system for automatic detection of solid and liquid explosives in personal items and carry-on luggage.

HI-SCAN 6040-2is HR uses mature X-ray technology to generate reliable, high-quality dual-view images. The modern, ergonomic design provides a user-friendly interface that makes it easier for the operator to identify threats and dangerous or illegal objects on the screen.

Rapiscan 620DV is an advanced security checkpoint solution designed for aviation and high security applications. It uses innovative dual-view technology to generate horizontal and vertical views of the inspected object. Rapiscan 620DV has been approved and included in the qualified list for the US TSA Advanced Technology (AT) Security Equipment Checkpoint Program. Rapiscan 620DV provides unparalleled image quality, automatic detection software for solid explosives and automatic liquid explosives identification with regulatory approval.

IONSCAN 600 is a highly sensitive trace detector with a lightweight and portable desktop configuration. It can be used to accurately detect and identify a wide range of military, commercial, and homemade explosive threats and common illegal/controlled narcotics, including highly efficient synthetic fentanyl opioids that are rapidly spreading worldwide.

IONSCAN600 can provide accurate trace explosives and narcotics detection at the same time, and can also be programmed according to specific requirements for special explosives or narcotics detection.

1) The L3 Pro vision scanner ProVision ATD with automatic target detection function uses safe active millimeter wave (MMW) radio frequency technology to quickly screen passengers to automatically detect hidden objects made of various materials (including metal and non-metal).

The passenger experience of ProVision ATD is convenient, direct and efficient, requiring only a fixed location during scans of less than 1.5 seconds.

The system completes all the work for the customer and does not require special actions or actions.

ProVision ATD is an imageless solution that eliminates privacy issues.

There are hundreds of security cameras near the terminal and airport.

These include facial recognition and license plate recognition cameras.

The airport company is currently purchasing body cameras for its security personnel.

These scanners will allow passengers to carry liquids through major checkpoints.
