U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized $3.4 million in heroin and meth in separate incidents, authorities said.

The first case happened on June 14 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge. CBP officers referred a Ford F-350 to secondary inspection. K-9 and X-ray inspections resulted in the seizure of 75.75 pounds of meth within perishable goods. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $3,339,969, according to CBP.

A second enforcement action occurred later that day at the World Trade Bridge. A United Parcel Service (UPS) truck was referred to secondary inspection for K-9 and X-ray inspections. That’s when CBP officers said they discovered 3.17 pounds of heroin within a cardboard package. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $126,984.

In total, the meth and heroin were valued at about $3,466,953.

“Officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have heightened their narcotics interdiction and border security posture to combat drug smuggling attempts,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “Through targeted and proactive law enforcement activity, CBP employees help dismantle trafficking organizations and prevent their illicit products from entering the U.S.”

CBP seized the narcotics and one vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations are further investigating the smuggling attempts.
